Powder Room Countertop with Glass Bowl
Travertine, 7.5" x 69" x 27"
This piece for a powder room was specified by the architect as "a slab thrusting through the wall." It could have no visible supports, needed to be dramatic in size, color and shape, and had to accommodate a glass sink bowl chosen by the client. The solution was to cut a thick slice from a 15 ton block of travertine and then cut it so that what was the pointed corner became to front edge tapering away to "nothing" on the far side. This not only created the drama the architect wanted, but also made it easier to get to the other parts of the small room.
