The patio of this home is truly an extension of the indoor living space. "Opening" needed to be sited in such a that:
1) it added to the ambiance of the patio;
2) it was visible and visually interesting from inside the house;
3) the sound of the water carried into the house, especially to the master bedroom upstairs, yet still had a gentle sound on the patio itself.

With its large cut-out, it also needed to be sited with something interesting, but not competing behind it. With the crushed granite ground behind it and a low, blue wall curving toward it, the sculpture is set off perfectly, as seen from the house. Since there is a second floor deck above the patio, the shape of the reflecting pool was really important. It had to blend into the rectangular shapes of the patio and also echo the curves in the sculpture.
